Dynamic December

20121223_130530Living in the Heart of the Magic is even more “Magical” during the holiday season!  December is a month that we look forward to all year round.  There is so much to do this December that we have decided to call it Dynamic December and go full-force into the holiday fun.  Here are some of the things that we hope to achieve this Dynamic December.

Christmas Day Parade Taping at Magic Kingdom

So many conflicting reports on when this is actually taking place.  We will more than likely spend more than a few days at Magic Kingdom during this timeframe to see some of the taping.  We always enjoy seeing all of the production aspects that go into the parade.  We also can watch on Christmas Day and get chills thinking about how we were there!  Last year we really looked forward to Neil Patrick Harris’s opening number having seen them tape it.  It did not disappoint when we saw it all put together on Christmas Morning.

Candlelight Processional and Holidays around the World at EPCOT

We really enjoy the Candlelight Processional and like to hear the Christmas Story narrated by different celebrities each year.  We have our favorites as I mentioned before but we try to see some new narrators each year.  So far we have seen Gary Sinise, Gina Davis, and Neil Patrick Harris.  This year a few sound interesting to me:  Whoopi Goldberg, Marlee Matlin, Isabella Rossellini (I admit just because I am a Friends nut/Only way I know who she is.).  Levar Burton and Ana Gasteyer are also possibilities.  We will just have to wait and see what happens.

Touring Resorts to Look at Holiday Decorations

Each year we spend a day going from resort to resort on Disney property and check out the decorations.  This year I would like to plan it so that we make it to The Wilderness Lodge in the evening and head over to Fort Wilderness Campground to see all of the decorations over there and then head to the Campfire Movie to cap off the night.  Touring resorts is one of my favorite things to do, especially at the holidays.

Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We have already been once this year but we will more than likely make it to Disney’s Hollywood Studios a couple more times in December.  We just can’t get enough.  When you are able to do it more than once you can experience them in different ways each time.  I think the next time my wife suggested that we grab some hot cocoa and find a nice place to sit and just drink our cocoa and enjoy the lights and music without the hustle and bustle of moving around.  That sounds like a wonderful idea to me!

A Frozen Holiday Wish/Holiday Wishes/Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade

Ok so we have already seen A Frozen Holiday Wish where the characters from Frozen help Elsa cover Cinderella Castle with ice (Castle Dream Lights) but next time we want to plop ourselves down as close as we can to enjoy the entire experience.  Since Holiday Wishes can only be viewed during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party we might combine the night that we watch A Frozen Holiday Wish with a viewing of Holiday Wishes from the TTC upon exiting the park when the party begins.  As for the Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, we have the ability to see this parade during the day a few days before Christmas.  Normally it becomes the 3 o’clock parade during that time.  We opt to see it that way even though we would love to see it at night and during a Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.  Maybe some day!  This is much more cost effective.

Downtown Disney and Meeting Santa Claus

We must make time to head to Downtown Disney to see the holiday decorations as well as get the annual pictures with Santa Claus.  This year they are actually handing out pagers so that you can shop and when it is time for you to line up to meet Santa they simply page you.  It is sort of like Fast Pass+ for Santa Claus!  It would make the experience a lot more bearable with the little ones.  Maybe they won’t have as much time to build up crankiness for Santa and the photographer.

Jingle Jungle Parade and Animal Kingdom Decorations

Jingle Jungle is not much more than the regular parade at Animal Kingdom but it does add some holiday flair. I haven’t heard much about the parade this year or even if they are still doing it with all of the construction at the park.  The holidays are also an amazing time to visit Animal Kingdom because the weather cooperates much more in Disney’s Hottest (Weather) Park.  It is a great time to tour the park and I hear there is a “magnificent tree adorned with animal carvings and art” according to my Mickey Monitor.  I have never had the chance to see such a tree at Animal Kingdom and am really looking forward to it.

Macy’s Holiday Parade and Mannheim Steamroller at Universal Studios

Balloons and floats from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York make their way to Universal Orlando.  We prefer this to watching the parade on television for obvious reasons but this is more of an actual parade.  There is no stopping for performances of Broadway musicals and such.  We like to see the balloons in the parade and also the balloons that are stationary around the park that you can get a picture with.  Mannheim Steamroller is also there in concert on select nights.  Last year we tried to see them and as soon as the show started it began to pour down rain.  The boys and I ran for the car.  Christina made it through a couple songs and had to leave as well.  Maybe this year will be better.

Grinchmas at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

Seuss Landing at Islands of Adventure turns into a wintry wonderland.  There is also a live musical show that we all enjoyed last year. It is a lot of fun and you even have the ability to meet The Grinch (if you are willing to brave the line).

Sea World Christmas Celebrations

One of the best days of the holiday season last year was the day that we went to Sea World’s Christmas Celebration.  It blew my mind and far exceeded any expectations that I had.  From the dancing lights of the Sea of Christmas Trees to the snow falling around the Christmas Market it was an incredible experience.  My wife and son really enjoyed The Polar Express attraction as well.  That is something that maybe I will try this year.  Line was really long and someone had to stay with Cameron at the time.  Maybe we can all ride this year.  SeaWorld also gives Passholders a free ornament that we will be sure to pick up.

Busch Gardens

We just found out that if we take our SeaWorld Annual Pass to Busch Gardens this month that we can get a one day admission to the park.  We have never been to Busch Gardens as a family, which is odd due to our love of theme parks and it only being 45 minutes away.  This should be an exciting day for us.  I’m a little concerned that we might like it and end up with another monthly theme park payment.

As you can see we have a lot to try and accomplish before the new year!  Who knows if we will be able to get it done.  We initially called it Dynamic December because one definition is “pertaining to or characterized by energy or effective action; vigorously active or forceful; energetic” but I think that we will find as the month rolls on that we call it dynamic because of the other definition “characterized by constant change, activity, or progress.” No matter if we are able to accomplish everything on our list December is sure to be a great month trying!
